Healing from trauma and abuse is not linear it is spiral

We think about healing in three parts. A beginning-where we are aware of the thing in our life that has come to a crisis point and needs us to heal. Then a middle-where we start our healing journey. At the end-we expect it to come to a conclusion. But the conclusion we imagine, is not as it seems. We think that healing is a destination we get to, a full cure. But over many eons others on healing journeys such as ours have found out that healing was something that is not linear but in fact is circular and spiral. There are many ancient carvings and drawing denoting these spirals around the world.

As we go on our journey of healing we begin to notice that if we are not healing or are not fully healing we may get despondent and want to give up. We get that way because we do not understand what healing is. We imagine that straight line with a start, a middle and an ending. That image is unrealistic and is driven by striving for excellence and often self aggression. A healing warrior begins to see that they are healing and transforming all the time. They do not keep telling themselves that they are useless and getting nowhere. They see instead the spiral where one starts at a point and reaches another point then finds themselves on yet another spiral. But rather than being disappointed one knows that this is how it is. This is healing. Once you are on the spiral path that in itself IS HEALING!

There are many layers to healing and therefore many spirals. But there is always a movement forward it is just that it doesn't always appear as you expect it. You get so used to achieving that you don't even noticed how far you have come. You get fed up because you are not healing fast enough, working hard enough, not enough of anything. So the healing becomes a journey of self abuse.

In order to understand your journey of healing from abuse and trauma begin to see it as a spiral journey. A round, interesting, curve of adventure. The reason why you are here. It is not a hard straight line. It is a spiral maze where often the end and the escape is hidden from us. If it were easy everyone would be in the middle. Understand your path of healing and you will see that you are already as healed as you can be. You are good enough right now. The next step is about to be taken. But now you no longer look for the end you see the miracle of being on the spiral path of the warrior. A spiritual emergence has happened already. You are on the spiral but you did not know because you were waiting for something in the future. Missing the present moment which is full of possibilities and hope.
